Why not? (I don't understand) The way I envision it you'll basically be
working a branch from 1.6.0-svn, i.e. what will become 1.6.0. Why couldn't
you apply a patch that also modifies the file format?
The only drawback I see is that you'll have to wait until after the
release of 1.5.0?
