What error messages (if any) you get in the terminal ?
I'm guessing that the problem occurs because the maximum number of XForms
popups has been reached (I haven't add a code to handle this case yet...).
This can also happen in the Refs menu.

Maybe you are using it wrongly: the prefix of the label in a prettyref
must be 3 letters and then a ':', for example 'sec:introduction'
