I'm apparently trying to understand a moving target here, so I'll give it a second shot now that 'status' has disappeared etc.

In the trunk we have:
* trunk/README
* trunk/ANNOUNCE
* trunk/NEWS
* trunk/RELEASE-NOTES

where

* trunk/README - this is to be read first by someone using the source. It
  should give pointers about where to go next.

* trunk/ANNOUNCE - the source/copy of the announcement that's sent out
  when a new version is released.

* trunk/NEWS - a collection of major points from the previous
  announcments, presented in reverse chronological order.

* trunk/RELEASE_NOTES - Important things to know about present release.
  This includes known bugs that have not been fixed.

As for bugs, there is the suggestion that:

* trunk/ANNOUNCE says something like:

        Known bugs at release time are detailed in RELEASE_NOTES,
        and an updated list of bugs can be found in the LyX wiki at
                http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/RELEASE_NOTES15Beta

I'm not sure it should be '...Beta', what do you think?

* trunk/RELEASE says something like

        Further details of known known bugs can be found in
        the LyX wiki at
                http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/RELEASE_NOTES15Beta

* The wiki page RELEASE_NOTES15Beta will link to trunk/RELEASE_NOTES as
  well as trunk/ANNOUNCE. In addition, the page will also contain (embed
  or include) a copy of trunk/RELEASE_NOTES. Below that, we could pull
  in a list of bugs from bugzilla that match some suitable keyword.
  Or just give the user a link to bugzilla.

Is there any point to having a wiki page corresponding to trunk/README and trunk/ANNOUNCE, i.e. a page that primarily links to the corresponding files and embeds/includes their contents?

Thoughts regarding the above? If you like it I can set up the wiki page and make patches for RELEASE_NOTES and ANNOUNCE.

/Christian

PS: Question about trunk/README: Is this file also available with an _installed_ version of LyX? I.e. on Windows where most users will go for an installer... somehow I doubt it. Is there an equivalent .lyx-file?
