On the scrollbar issue, what can I say? I more or less know what needs

In order to destabilize 1.5.1 because of the cleanup?

I fully agree with Georg. If major changes are needed, they have to be made now or they will never go into the 1.5.X branch!

In the past, stability increased with every minor release (1.X.1 => 1.X.2 => 1.X.3 => ...), mainly because we did not allow big changes. IMHO users (including myself) appreciate this approach, because they don't have to think about whether it is safe to move to the next minor release.

If really needed, we could also do 1.5.0.x release for quick and simple bug fixes like the linux kernel do. But I doubt there would be a need for that.

If you have plans for bigger modifications in the 1.5.X branch, please let us know in advance so that we can decide on how to proceed. Personally, I would not be willing to accept intrusive changes (though I am not the one to decide).

I was not planning intrusive changes, only incremental changes and cleanup, in any case much less intrusive than the changes introduced in 1.4.x series. Anyway, let's re-discuss that when 1.5.0 is released.

IMO, we cannot wait forever that you or I, or Bo, Andre, Michael or JMarc (...) have the time to fix all
remaining issues. IMHO, we cannot afford that or the 1.4.0 saga is going
to be repeated: no development done for a year or so.

Well, I don't think that we make no progress. In fact, we (i.e. you)

I personally arrive at saturation. I simply cannot maintain this rhythm. What I really mean is that 1.5.0svn is good enough for me and for a lot of people already. So, even if we did not solve all 1.4 regressions WRT 1.3, I reckon that 1.5 is very stable (stabler than 1.4.3 in fact), very fast and bring an amazing lot of new feature in addition to unicode.

It's time to unleash the beast! After beta 2 of course...
