If you read the list a bit, you will see that I am the old grumpy guy
who always complains that such or such package will not be available
on all machines. So I think you are also missing my point...

To go back to nomencl.sty, I see that it is available on my notriously
old teTeX 2.0 distribution, so I am very surprised to learn that it is
not in miktex. Uwe, do you have more information on this? I see
nothing in the license (LPPL) for example, that would make this
difficult. If it has been 'forgotten' in MikTeX, it should be quite
easy to make it reappear.

        I'm not using MiKTeX; I'm using what fink packages up.

Yes, "know what they are doing", that is the point. I do not think we
should think about such solutions before finding out why the file is
not there.

Well, I've installed mpm, and it does a decent job of installing styles (I think anyway). Now, even with it installed, LyX errors. I've started a second thread for that. :)
