This looks very much like the infamous Qt3-immodule patch on Ubuntu bug. Scribus has the same problem: http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=1908 Try another LyX frontend if possible or compile a Qt3 without the immodule patch. It might also help to set the IM configuration to "XIM", ymmv. HTH /Andreas
