Maybe there is a third alternative:

C: We declare both installers as non-official!
C2: ... and someone develops a new official one by picking the best of both installers.

Analogy: If two children cannot agree on some toy (here: "official-ness"), none of them gets it. (Before I get involved in a flame war: I don't consider Joost and Uwe as children or childish!!)
