Please clarify.
The easiest way is to try output to PDF (pdflatex).
Moving the pplatex out of the way, doing a reconfigure, and then
outputting to dvi should also get you the same problem.
The solution to this problem sounds reasonable and I agree with your
analysis. I just need to have a look at the problem itself. :-)
