i always thought these buttons were really ugly anyway. what i would
like is something like (instead of a button) :

<idx>
<cite: Peng (2006)>
<ref: blah blah>
<url: http://www.lyx.org>
<ert: \funky stuff>
etc. and then in the sans font in a different color...
(and perhaps when you hover them they get underlined and the cursor
shape changes)

in a lyx document are not like buttons in a html page. In the lyx
case, there are *many* buttons and you usually *ignore* most of them;
in the html case, there are only a few buttons and you expect to find
them easily. That is why I would like to make lyx buttons less
prominent.
But anyway, the colors are configurable...
