Why not use directly a formula inset? As I already noted, numbers
should be typeset in math mode in (La)TeX. While is is not obvious
with default fonts, where numbers look identical with math fonts and
text font, it is really necessary when using something like euler
fonts (special math fonts), with which you would not like "123" to
look different from "x > 123".

In fact, if we have a _really_ good algorithm, we could do this
automatically for all text. I _really_ mean "really", since we do not
want to have msword-like intellisense crap, where your editor just
knows better than you do what you intend to type.
