Then the only possible solution is introducing a noauto flag...

Or, perhaps better, tell the Windows users to set the viewer for pdf
files in preferences. After all, they only have to write "pdfview" in
the right place after a couple of mouse clicks ;-)

Another hack coming to my mind is that the installer could also install
a default preferences file only containing three lines for the pdf
formats, but frankly, do you really think that the average Windows
user cannot manage to set a viewer using the GUI for preferences?
