One solution would be to wrap the table in a minipage whenever it includes a footnote. Or, probably much better, support threeparttable. BTW it is not that uncommon to not support footnotes in tables. I recently discovered that Adobe InDesign CS2 does not support footnotes in tables as well (not even in non-floating tables). Jürgen
