I agree with you to some degree. However,
- there is some evidence that qt4 is superior to qt3 (at least some people think so) - development has already shifted from qt3 to qt4 and IMHO this shift is irreversible - the qt4 frontend is already as good as qt3, i.e. we don't through away something just to start from scratch again.
I think the last point is the most important one. Regarding the spellchecker discussion, I tend to agree with Lars that we have to have enchant support first, and only after this has proven to be superior, we can start removing the old stuff.
