About the only requirement we have is that the UI is setup so it can have
one dialog of each type per lyxview (minimum -- although I'm inclined to
think that could also be a maximum except perhaps for toolbars for
individual bufferviews). And of course it has to work with libsigc++.
Other than that it's up to the individual ports how they make LyX look.
