Hmm, I was able to build yesterdays version from cvs without any problems after running
autogen.sh and unapplying a patch that had made it in and caused problems.
My system is a Mandrake-7 with gcc-2.95.2.

Btw: does anybody whether the latest STL that comes with gcc-2.95.2 supports 
stringstream?
