While it is not directly related to LyX yet, word2x is looking for CVS hosting
and in the running to become LyX's M$ word import facility (it is not there
quite yet, IMHO). Even if word starts using XML it will probably be littered
with physical style stuff that needs rewriting as a proper structured document.

word2x already has logic in this direction and adding a new first stage to the
next generation of word2x should be fairly easy... and writing new output
formats is easy already, although I am short of clues on .lyx format to
implement a word .lyx output format. This will give you the structure
extraction code free. The kernel of the next generation exists and apparently
works too.

Those who have a masocistic streak can do a word-style bibliography to BiBTeX
engine (given a reasonably portable version I could probably do the citation
insertion engine). Other open projects include reverse engineering M$ equation
format, P-code, and all the rest M$ fails to document.
