I didn't try to use it, but while I was stuck scanning documents, i 
used a nearby darkside machine, and lyx came up as part of my .xsession.

The real trick was getting xwin32 to talk to debian, which I finally 
did by accident. (either a) have the same user logged into an xsession 
on the ocnseole, or b) don't start a window manager in .xsession, but 
instead have another persistant program)
