Good idea, in principle.

That would be a much better way, IMHO, as you would have to learn the
european keymap, anyway. If you only use those chars now and then, you
may (will) forget those keys. If you use them often, you should use
Compose to be consistent with other apps.
OK, just my oppinion. As long as Compose works, everything is fine :-)
