Poking command lines at the kernel when booting is OK for getting the job done, for as long as eth0 is delivered despite the foretellings of doom. I'll find a sufficiently early rc script in which to run ifrename if that restorative hack fails one day. I do like to have an /etc file with which to control interface names. Hoiking out systemd is then a chocolate coated bonus.
