thanks for all the help guys, i'm very cautious. And i might just leave it for now and try to provide all info that i can squeese out of it. And let someone else grab the hot coal out of the fire.

Would it work to do this in a virtual machine? Or does virtual box use the driver of the host system?

xinput --list

This again say's synaptics. But it's still not clear to me if this is based on the actual hardware, or if this is merely saying that a synaptics driver is loaded (just software)

This laptop is a 2011 model. These are now being dumped on the 2nd hand market.

Fujitsu's website isn't the easiest to navigate....

after following the links Andre posted i bumped into thisone:
https://forum.ts.fujitsu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46270

from the looks of it windows loads 2 drivers side by side?
i'm hunting for pictures of a cracked open S761, to see if this machine has 2 physical connections or if it is just one pad, with 2 area's.

please also look at this
http://www.fujitsu.com/us/products/devices/components/touch-panels/downloads/
then click the serial TAB

is says:
**** Linux Notes:

The current Linux driver releases can be used in the following Linux versions: Linux Kernel Version 2.2.14 and 2.4.2, Xfree86 Version 3.3.6 and 4.03. We have checked for proper operation with the following Linux distributions: Red Hat Linux 7.1, Red Hat Linux 6.2J, Turbo Linux Server Japanese 6.1. Linux drivers are available to our customers by request; please contact us for details.

I hope someone can have a look at this. It doesn't say anything about what is working. so i'm not sure this actually enables the scroll functionality. hehe.
