Thanks for the prompt reply and apologies for attaching my enquiry to the Lubuntu-users Digest message. When it comes to mailing lists, I don't quite understand how Thunderbird works. Is there something unusual about those packages or is this a change in policy? It has been my experience since 6.06 that, unlike Windows, Linux usually does not need a restart with software updates.
