"Spoke" too soon; while typing an email I had the accidental swiping of touchpad that then causes sytem "freeze." Had the same problem in my MBPro running various versions of LM, except there under "mouse & keyboard" they also have "touchpad" and if I check the "disable tap to click while typing" . . . that more or less "solves" the problem. Couldn't find that feature in Lu 16???
On this iBook the touchpad was having "issues" so I taped two layers of credit card over the area, but still it catches the "vibes" and I guess it does something in "synaptics" that causes the mouse cursor to jump, and then the system crashes . . . have to shut down with power button. Reboot and it's again, "OK."
