Phill

I'm still having problems on G4's with very dark/no text or very dark/faint
text installer screens with the desktop isos.
In addition to my eMac G4 (dark screen no text), iBook G4 (dark screen faint
text), I've also had problems with a PowerMac G4 1.2GHz, external monitor, dark
screen, very faint text. But in all cases the install seems to proceed if I
can find a way of making the text visible.

Sincerely,
Paul Gorski

Thanks,

certainly for now, a good set of instructions using the alternate for G3 may be
prefferable to hacking the LiveCD, such set of notes can be posted to the wiki
area with a release note letting people know where to find it?

But, I'll let you guys continue testing and find the least painful route. In
the menatime I will flag up again at tomorrows main QA meeting that G3's are a
problem 'per-se' with the exiting ubiquity installation for all the ppc
LiveCDs. Options seem to be that Ubiquity 'learns' that it is doing a G3
install and adjusts accordingly or a G3 variant is created. I fear we may run
out of time for 12.04 it would depend if Colin Watson has the time to look into
the possibility.

Regards,

Phill.

Yes, lighdm and not gdm, but my point being we shouldn't have to do this manual
entry. (And that this has been a known problem for a while.)
The original note applies to "hacking" the live CD install.
We'd just as well tell folks to use the alternate and modify the xorg.conf file.

What I do know is that there is a "fglrx error, module not found" when booting
from the live CD on an iMac G3.
Also, there is a frame buffer erro
Most of the xorg.conf custom settings include: Option FBDev "false".

live video=ofonly and live video live video=ofonly no splash, do not avoid
these problems.

One, I'd like prevent the system from trying to load "fglrx" and two I'd like
to disable the FBDev.
It seems that by default FBDev is "on" or "true" for PowerPC, and this may
cause a problem with the ATI Graphics in the iMac G3.

I have found some information that I am testing, and should be done testing
tomorrow.
Instead video=ofonly, changing some other video attributes.

I'll keep you posted.

Sincerely,
Paul Gorski

Inthe case of lubuntu, it most likely is lighdm and not gdm. You good people
with the kit can tell us and we can ensure any instructions are updated

Shouldn't that be lightdm in place of gmd?
