Yes, I was wrong initially, cpufreq seems to be not the cause. Lock-ups still
occur with disabled cpufreq (governor=performance) and with the
loongson2_cpufreq module unloaded.

It is a sudden complete freeze, the image on display stays, but stops moving,
no keypress is reacted to, and mouse/touchpad does not move the cursor. The
machine in this state is also not pingable or accessible by ssh. The only
solution is to power off by holding the power key for 4 seconds and then power
back on.
