Well, since 2.6.32 is an old kernel, perhaps it might have been compiled with
older binutils indeed.

I have switched my network from WPA2 AES to WPA1 TKIP, and managed to run the
machine for a much longer period before the lock-up.

Now it locked up -- and for the first time, not completely dead, but with the
leftmost LED above the keyboard flashing! Is it possible to obtain debug
information while in this state?

I have tried some SysRq keys, but only Alt+SysRq+B worked (reboot).

Yes, it provides both -mfix-loongson2f-nop and -mfix-loongson2f-jump.
To be clear - I only built the .37 and .38 kernels (not .32), used them
briefly, and since I discovered they make no difference with regard to
lock-ups, I switched back to using the prebuilt .38 kernel from linux-libre
for now.
