Cameron, activityworkshop, The side-effects are not that tricky, we just have to bring not only gpsprune but also jmapviewer and josm to a newer version.
I believe we should do that anyway, as the current versions of those packages are old, and may even not function well anymore (eg bing maps support in josm is now broken). I'll see if I can provide updated packages this week.
