Hi All,
I have two identical IDE hard drives in my system that I am in the process of
building a RAID1 on, and for some reason they have different CHS... I built
the RAID1 on hdc, with hda as a failed-drive, and I would like to make the
same partitions on hda then hotadd them, but with the different geometries I
can't get the partions exactly the right size. This is an Asus TX97 board,
and these drives are each master on their IDE bus with no other drives.
Machine stats: P5MMX 200, Asus TX97, Redhat 6.2 upgraded to glibc 2.2.2,
gcc 2.95.2, kernel 2.4.4, RAIDtools 0.9, two identical WDC drives, same
lot #, jumpered the same way on separate IDE busses.

Can someone help me get the drives to be the same CHS? I have some theories
about why they might be different:
1.) one is the boot drive and for some reason the BIOS is munging it
differently (why?)
2.) I used to have another non-ATA66 drive on hdd which I later removed,
maybe having a second drive on the second bus caused the master to
be formatted differently? What can I do to change this?
Both drives are jumpered the same, and I've tried changing BIOS from AUTO
to USER and manually entering the CHS, but my BIOS won't let me do that,
and no combination of BIOS settings that I have tried can make them the same.
I'm hoping that there's something I can do in LILO involving either the
linear command or something else that I only partly understand that can
cause them to be recognized the same.
