Hi,

I am not a member of this list. I got this address through some other
mailing list reference.

To begin with

1. I bought a Specialix Multiport Serial PCI card (sx).
2. My system configuration is:

        Red Hat 6.1
        Kernel version 2.2.12

3. I tried to load the driver specialix.o which comes with the
redhat system but was unable to load it.

4. So i downloaded the driver from ftp.specialix.co.uk. & the Sx firmware
which is was told is needed to realize the ports !!

5. The steps i followed during installation:
Checked the list of pci devices which showed the irq value as 9 & ioport
address as 0x7080 for the specialix card.
Executed mknod as given in sx.txt as
                mknod /dev/ttyX$i for i = 1 to 32. (since i have two terminal adaptors)
mknod /dev/specialix_sxctl with major no: 32 & minor no: 167.
After creating the device special files i ran the sxfirmware. The system
hung
with no response. Nothing particular could be detected in the
/var/log/messages.

I tried to run sxfirmware without insmoding the driver but this time the
sxfirmware
program couldn't find the device file although i have already mknoded it.

I would appreciate if someone could render help on this.
Please send me the installation steps if anyone is sure about it as well as
the checks which i can make.

Thanks in advance

PAM
