in kpp you can try the foll:
conntn name: "myisp"

number: "######"
dns ip address: ?
dynamic ip
device:- /dev/ttys1 for com 1 etc or /dev/modem if you have this linked to
correct com port.
conn speed 57600 (works for me but not neccessarily has to be this).
in modem commands: 
dial string :atx1dt
vol off/lo/hi =m0L0,m1L2,m1L3   :-works on my gvc-rockwell modem but kpp
defaults are m0L0,m1L1,m1L4 see modem manual for ur correct modem commands.if u
want speakr always on replace m1 with m2.spkr will be on even after
connect.crosscheck with ur modem manual.
