but this is not the same using kppp...

another problem is tht when i give the command atdt<dial number>....  it
is not able to detect a dialtone...  while under the same physical
connections, windoze is able to dial easily....

pls help me out with this..

Hi rahul

Your modem might not be detecting the presence of a dial tone. Add the
init string ATX1 to /etc/wvdial.conf under the [Dialer Defaults] section
like this -

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyS1
Baud = 115200
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATX1S10=250
