hey rahul,

include the following in the init string:

atx0

x0 tells the modem to go ahead and dial even if it does not detect
the dial tone. the problem is due to the fact that some modems
are programmed "not" to detect non-US dial tones.

best,
-Piyush

Hello all...

My problem is a lil funny... I use a Prolink modem which runs on a
Rockwell driver (auto-detect) in Win98...

when i used kppp to try connect to the net, the program seems to be
unsuccessful to initiazlie my modem. several ppl asked me if i have a
winmodem...

i referred to the latest how tos which explained how to chk if i have a
winmodem using minicom...

the document referred some changes and finally asked me to give the at
command... if i get ok in a flash, i have a std modem... else im in
trouble...

well, using minicom, i get the ok in a flash... so it does initialize..
but this is not the same using kppp...

another problem is tht when i give the command atdt<dial number>.... it
is not able to detect a dialtone... while under the same physical
connections, windoze is able to dial easily....

pls help me out with this..

thx;)

Rahul
