Actually, this is not quite so. The hackers/hacking scene has changed considerably during the past few years, and there is alot of money involved. Hackers get payed for creating these botnets of hacked computers (also known as drones, zombies ,etc..). They then use these "armies" for whatever the purpose of the person who hired them is. More often than not, this purpose is either spam or phishing.
