It could be that your SMTP server is bound to 127.0.0.1 and not to 192.168.2.157 (or to all interfaces, 0.0.0.0), and thus, it can accept only traffic arriving from the loopback (lo) interface.
You can find out to which address it is bound by using the command netstat -pltn.
