Note that this is exactly the situation I was descring in labour-intensive
versus price-intensive.
Labour intensive translates into price-intensive + longer, that in addition
to possibly being price-intensive in the original sense (i.e. buy the
sodding equipment) anyway.
While not always happy to tout specific brands, but to share experience and
to lessen grief and woe - I had a lovely time with the following hardware
(multi-clients, multi-everything):
1. LSI Logic - both SCSI controllers and SATA/SCSI Raid
controllers
2. Mylex - RAID controllers
3. Cough, sputter, wash mouth with carbolic - HP ICCS RAID
4. ICP Vortex - RAID controllers
Adaptec NEVER was on this list. Though I did have experience with some of
their SCSI and RAID controllers, it was always tinged with the subtle and
almost unfelt hue of lurking pain - you know, that subliminal feeling that
it is waiting for you to turn your back in order to pounce on you and
massage it with its solder side?
