Plz have a look  at unifying KDE/GNOME using QT-GTK theme engines. It's 
available in some distors by default, in others you'll have to add it 
yourself. It applies to both GTK+1 or 2, but I've never tested it with GTK+1 
apps. This should take care of most of the font/size/theme/color issues and 
works quite well for me.
