1. AFAIK RedHat uses only free software in all its distros (including the enterprise edition). The updates to the software also contains free software and AFAIR are available from their FTP site. 2. They force you to pay for two things they own: - The automatic updates via RHN. - The "brand name" -- The name RedHat, the "shadow-man" figure etc. 3. CentOS, WhiteBox linux (and a third distro I forgot) all use the same basic idea which is documented in the RedHat official FAQ's: - Download the free software comprising RHEL (including updates). - Replace the tradmarks as required by RedHat. - Rebuild and distribute. 4. Good (IMO) options you have are: - Test with the newset FC to get early warning about expected technology changes in RH (e.g: SELinux). - Release-testing with CentOS or Whitebox to be within budget and as close to target as you can. - If you want your testing to be against a "certified" RH than please pay RedHat their dues -- What they are selling (apart from RHN) is their *brand name* -- you cannot rob them of this. 5. Last but not least -- please send your company to a good lawyer. I hope they can afford at least this (or are we expected to start a collection :-) Bye, -- Oron Peled Voice/Fax: +972-4-8228492 [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.actcom.co.il/~oron ICQ UIN: 16527398 Some people claim that the UNIX learning curve is steep, but at least you only have to climb it once ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
