Tools/Options.../Advanced/General Settings/Mark message read after displaying for n seconds.
If I can find it I can check what I have it set to. Have you tried to manually do "Messages->Mark->As Read"? (Messages is the 4th menu from the left).
That works, but helps me not at all. BTW, I'm using IMAP.
I've used 0.6, 0.7 and 0.7.1 with IMAP(S). Worked without a problem. "Mark emails as read after displaying X seconds" was no checked though.
Tested with 0.7.1 (for 1,5 and 10 seconds intervals) and works (sorry, don't have 0.6 to test with).
