You can or you can'tping the outside world?

Can you ping an IP address?

Try pinging your default gateway . Try 194.90.1.5

FWIW I recently connected to netvision and the connection required no
"dialer" at all. Just plain dhcp. The address of my eth1 is
212.[something]
