IE for MacOS has nothing to do with the Unix port, and seems to be a
project of a separate team, which includes new UI innovations and
features for the Mac much before Windows users see them.

As to Hebrew support on the Mac, Apple has introduced OS-level (in the
widget set) Hebrew support around 84-85, long before Microsoft. I
recall seeing an ad ("All your Mac applications will support Hebrew")
in some old People & Computers magazine I digged up somewhere.

As to UNIXes, as I understood from the AraMosaic project, some company
is selling an "Arabic support module" for commercial Unixes which does
pretty much what biditext does. Also, Motif has CTL modules to support
Hebrew, Arabic etc. but that's of course commercial too. Since OS-level
BiDi solutions exist for commercial platforms, maybe Microsoft would
expect BiDi to be the responsibility of the platform...
