This may or may not be a Linux problem, but, unfortunately, I have no other
place to ask this question. From previous experience, when I've called BEZEQ
or ISRASRV about any question or problem with my ADSL connection, the answer
is always **LINUX is your problem - ADSL doesn't work on LINUX** or similar
nonsense. In fact, I've been using ADSL on LINUX for about 8 months with no
real problems, but it's impossible to convince these idiots. In fact, the one
time I had a serious problem was when some moron at BEZEQ accidentally
disconnected my ADSL line, but it took a whole day of phone calls to BEZEQ
and ISRASRV to discover this.
OK - so now that I've said why I'm addressing this to the list, I'll tell you
about my problem and hope someone can suggest where to look for help or how to
debug the problem.
Let me start by saying that **as far as I know**, nothing has changed on my
system (no new programs installed, no new hardware, etc). Since yesterday,
when I try to connect, either PPP doesn't start, or if it does, it dies after
a few minutes. I get no error message when I run my regular connect script. If
it does start, I get no message when PPP stops. The lights o the ALCATEL modem
all look normal.
I've tried turning off the ALCATEL modem and that **sometimes** helps. I've
even tried re-booting the system (I know that's not a solution - but I'm
desperate!!!).
I wish I could provide more information, but as I said, there's no error
message or anything else **unusual**. I can even start a download, or go to a
web page, and for no apparent reason, the browser stops getting data. When that
happens, I try PING and discover that I'm no longer on-line.
I'll now try to connect again to send this message - I don't even know if that
will succeed :-(
