Most non-interpreted languages are now dead, aren't they? ;-)

Well, with Lisp you have a choice. You can have it interpreted (very
useful for development, prorotyping, and lots of other things) or
compiled (for performance). And it's not "more or less compiled" -
truly compiled (various implementations of Common Lisp). Some
dialects, such as elisp or xlispstat, are byte-compiled only though,
but I never found that a limitation, and I use both extensively.

My religion is better than yours, anyway [SMILEY!!!], and I am not
sure everybody thinks that lisp is on-topic here, so let's cut the
thread - I apologize for picking it up.
