Not exactly... But I tried to make both Linux and Solaris acting
as YP servers in different points of my life.
SOLARIS SUCKS! Well, Linux does, too.
> Which should be chosen as NIS server Linux or Solaris?
Linux. Because:
1. It's much easier to install ypserv on Linux than on Solaris
(except if Linux in question is Mandrake and YP doesn't work
unless hacked).
2. Linux is more stable then Solaris (except if Linux in
question is Mandrake, which sucks).
The best answer is, of course, BSD. [puts horns away]

I'm not sure how Solaris deals with shadow files, but I think it
does it well. Don't use anything except the traditional UNIX
password encryption (or hashing, whatever you call it). Yeah,
and remember to edit /var/yp/Makefile to serve every needed map
(sometimes things like shadow.byname are not created by default).

If you need help, mail me, because I don't normally read this
list.
