Thanks to all those who took the trouble to answer. Based on the
answers I received I'll try Procmail and if that doesn't work out,
I'll try PINE which I used many years ago when my ISP still provided
a terminal window (under DOS).
But out of courtesy, I'll answer a few points that came up in the
answers I received.

The PMMAIL/2 program I use in OS/2 seems to be a standard format, and
I have succeeded in **mounting** the OS/2 HPFS file system under
LINUX and reading the e-mail messages using PICO. So I think it
should be doable.

For instance, when I write to this list, my message gets sent to the
box I use to receive mail from the list - not to the **sent mail**
box. Letters I write to family members are moved to a **family** box.

This is only a small part of what my current OS/2 client (PMMAIL/2)
can do - and yes, I will miss it when I move to LINUX.

not practical for several thousand messages - yes, I'm a pack-rat :-)

So this will be a chance to learn Perl - although I'm more
comfortable with C

an interesting idea, but I think I'm still too new to Linux to start
playing with VMware (although it does sound good).

in this case, not necessary since my OS/2 mail IS already in ASCII
form. My question really regards all the other info my current client
saves - arrival time, status (read, answered, etc), attachments.
Again thanks to all - Shana Tova - Gmar Tov
