Hi.

Is anybody aware of an alternative to NFS that works the way ssh does,
i.e. does authentication not according to the IP but according to the
existance of the right key on the other side? Some kind of NFS with
public-key cryptoraphy? In other words, something that is to NFS what
ssh is to rsh.

I'll elaborate on the problem I'm trying to solve. I do work on my
computer in college and my computer at home, so there's the eternal
problem of keeping things synchronized. I would use regular NFS for
mounting my files from college when I connect to it from home, but
trouble is that my IP is dynamic. ssh doesn't care about that because
I have my secret key at home so I can authenticate from any IP (and
thus enter without password). But NFS is different. If there's no
ssh-NFS, what other solutions may exist to this problem?

I reckon this is not a unique situation. What do other people use for
synchronizing work over their computers? Note that I do not only need
to syncronize a source tree (in which case I'd use CVS), but it's also
configuration of software such as Gnome Time Tracker that I use to
track time I spend on things...

Computers are like air conditioners. Both stop working if you open windows.
