If eth2 line got disconnected, We will have a split-brain situation. Because the standby node will think that the active node is dead and since it still can ping the gateway it is sure that it's good to serve resources, thus it will start all the resources. Meanwhile the active node thinks that the standby node is dead and that it still can ping the gateway and will keep the resources anyway. If the cross cable is only 50cm long, I'm sure the chance is pretty slim for it to be disconnected accidentally. But we'll never know.
