There is a free, drop-in knitting group every Tuesday 9:30–11 AM at Bemis Hall.

The library group on Wednesday nights is a great group, I try to attend
however life often gets in the way. The Unruly Stitch opened in Weston
recently, another fantastic local yarn store. Thursday nights Unruly Stitch
hosts an open knit night 6-8pm. Their yarn selection is very different than
Island Yarn in Maynard. It’s great to have two local stores that offer such a
wide range of choice across many budget points.

Happy knitting!

There is also a group that meets at the Library, think maybe Wednesday
evenings. I prefer not going out at night so have never been there.

Sorry, when I responded to Judy I didn’t do it to all of Lincoln Talk.

There is a small group of interesting women from town that meet at the COA from
9:30-11 on Tuesday mornings. I’m very glad to help anyone that comes with
questions, mistakes, whatever. It’s totally drop in n, come when you can.

Jude - funny you should reach out to LincolnTalk about knitting, as I was going
to do the same this morning! I am also an advanced beginner who is just
finishing her first sweater and seeks input/guidance and conversation, and am
hoping to find - or start? - a knitting group. There used to be a wonderful
store in Belmont called Knittin’ Kitten where women gathered to knit, but she
closed during COVID. West Newton also used to have a similar shop, but they too
have closed. The only place I’ve found to get answers to my questions is the
store in Dedham, but I have been underwhelmed by their inventory of yarns, and
as far as I know there is no group that meets there.

As for supplies- it seems that going on line is the least expensive approach
(yarn.com<http://yarn.com> and others). Michaels and Hobby Lobby and JoAnns
Fabric all have knitting supplies, but their supply chains suffer like so many
businesses, and they rarely have everything you need (looking for a size 7
needle? Oh, they only have 6 and 8 today….etc)

If you really want to invest in getting a full set of supplies and are up for a
bit of a trip, by far and away the best place to go is WEBS in Northampton,
which calls itself “America’s Yarn Store”. This place is ginormous and has
everything you can think of in the way of yarn and supplies. It takes a little
over an hour to get there but it is well worth the trip. While we don’t know
each other, I’d be delighted to go out there with someone else and explore!

My two cents. I’m sure there are others on LincolnTalk who have better advice…..

Howdy & Happy New Year!

I have recently rediscovered knitting and am finishing my first jumper. Before
I dive into purchasing a whole bunch of knitting supplies for my new hobby, I
was wondering if anyone has any they're no longer using or would like to get
rid of?

Thanks!
Jude

PS. Also is there someone who would be willing to offer some help and advice
with reading patterns in exchange for wonderful conversation? I'm very much
self taught and sometimes could use a hand!
