I've grown blues for about 10 years in a netted cage. I've never gotten very many berries, but this year when I left to spend the usual Jone/July 3 or 4 week time at the cape, there were hundreds of beautiful, healthy flowers and green berries! I thought this would finally be the year of the great harvest when I got back. Other years there have been a few to a few handfuls when I left, but fewer when I came back, but with so few to begin with. Over the years I've greatly improved the security of the net cage, and the feeding, pruning and mulching. And there have been people at the house and neighbors who haven't seen any birds, squirrels, chipmunks etc inside. Finally, there are only a few on the ground.
Has anyone had this experience with blues, or could you offer any insight esp into what happened this year, but maybe all the other years too.? Thank you!!
