This is a very good question.  IIRC, it comes from headers or footers
added by lilypond.  It is obviously not possible to *completely*
disable that, hence the silly whitespace.  This is a bug in lilypond,

I've always wondered where this reference to Century comes from when looking at the properties of a PDF file. More than once I tried to find the one grob where I'd forgotten to override the font family ...

Interesting discussion, I can't contribute to it, though.
