No, the first score should be d8 e fis g a4 a | a8 g fis e d4 d

Then if you follow the tutorial you go to the LilyPond > Process/view
menu and press "Run lilypond"
Then it automatically asks you for a filename to save the file to.
Then it processes the file. Not mess, but a window titled "Console"
comes up. Etc.
Are you referring to the content of this "Console" window? Could copy
and paste its content?
