thanks mats and valentin for all the information. it seems i stumbled
upon a known issue... but at the same time, i'm rather proud to have
been able to find a good solution all by myself!

by the way and for what it's worth, i think that for chromatic clusters
(i. e. two notes in a chord, sharing the same stem) spilt stem alla
bartók IS a good alternative (THE correct alternative?).

when the two notes belong to different voices that's a completely
different situation. there i'd wish that LP wouldn't merge the
noteheads like it's doing now. IMO they should be treated like
differently-headed and differently-dotted notes. 

thanks for your attention and your help, i find trying to learn LP
